Questions on the Copywriting Process
How do you charge?
I charge my copywriting services on a per-project basis which I believe is a fair and better estimation of how much work is required than a day rate.
How long does it take to finish a copywriting project?
It could take three working days to four weeks or more, depending on project requirements and and complexity, as well as my current writing schedule.
Anything less than three workdays is considered a rush job.
If I am not committed to a copywriting project, I can begin writing your project as soon as I receive the 50% advance.
Generally, allow a minimum two weeks’ lead time due to existing copywriting commitments.
Do you accept rush copywriting jobs?
For copywriting projects with an urgent deadline (less than three working days), a rush fee of 30% applies.
Why a rush fee?
The copywriter has to work longer hours and even over the weekend to finish a rush job.
However, I don’t recommend rush jobs.
When do you begin writing?
I will commence writing upon receiving 50% advance of the total project fee.
The advance is non-returnable.
For writing projects costing $500 or less, you need to pay in full before work begins.
When do you pay the balance fee?
I’ll send you the balance invoice upon delivery of the first full draft of the copy.
The balance is payable within 7 days from the date of the final invoice.
Do note that you’ll get up to two FREE revisions, and you’ll have up to 30 days from the date of receipt of the first full draft – for revisions to be made.
How many revisions are there?
You’ll get up to two rounds of revisions at no extra charge within 30 days from the date of submission of the first draft.
So, it’s recommended that any request for revisions be made within 14 days from receipt of the first draft to allow sufficient time for amendments.
If I do not receive any requests for revisions, I’ll assume you’re happy with the draft submitted.
How about out-of-scope revisions?
The revisions must be within the agreed scope of the project, i.e. the project brief.
If you’re requesting for revisions that are out-of-scope, i.e. differ or deviate from the original agreed scope of the project, it’ll be considered a new project, subject to a new quotation.
What if I cancel the copywriting writing project?
There is no refund for the 50% advance.
If you decide to cancel the copywriting project or not to use the copy after I’ve completed writing it, you will still have to pay the full balance fee.
If you cancel the copywriting project before I’ve completed writing the copy, but work has already begun, you will be billed proportionately to what has been completed.
What about late payments?
A late fee of 15% will be added to the total cost of the project.
How about copyright?
I own the copyright until you’ve paid in full.
The copy cannot be published until full payment is made.
I also reserve the right to display my work as part of my online portfolio.
Are you a freelance copywriter?
Yes, I’m a “full-time” freelance copywriter based in Singapore.
Before becoming a freelance writer, I was in journalism, marketing, communications, and training development; all in all, over 15 years of work experience.
Have a look at my website copywriting portfolio and print and article writing portfolio.
What are your copywriting rates?
My copywriting rates are affordable and reasonable for the high quality of writing you’ll receive.
Keyword-focused copy
Writing a keyword-focused web page could take 3 to 6 hours as it involves keyword research, competitor research and clear understanding of the audience, message and purpose.
Objective-focused writing
Similarly, I adopt a strategic approach in website copywriting, brochure copywriting and company profile copywriting because clear communication is key to good copy and achieving results.
So far, most of my writing projects require no revision or only minor revisions.
Getting the copy right is important.
Besides saving you time, it keeps your project on target!
